Description

Asplundh Engineering Services is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer - Substation Design. As a technical lead substation design engineer, you will be responsible for developing electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design (protective relays) and/or physical design for distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission level voltage classes. You will also actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings. 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Continuously learn, remain current, and apply independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and Asplundh Engineering Services policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks
  • Consistently and independently apply knowledge and comply with Asplundh Engineering Services quality program relative to assigned tasks and ensure compliance with the quality program
  • Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables and perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
  • Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements, and plan and conduct independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects
  • Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects, communicate client interests and drivers to project team members, and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on less complex projects
  • Design a complete project of moderately complex scope within an assigned practice area(s)
  • Assist with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience
  • Substation design experience - Physical and/or Protection & Controls
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control of substation design projects
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License or EIT
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline
