Asplundh Engineering is currently seeking Electrical Estimators in the Bend, Oregon area. This is a permanent full-time position.  Selected candidate must be able to work at sites in and around Bend, Medford, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, Roseburg, Ashland and Yreka, CA.

The Electrical Estimator prepares power designs for infrastructure upgrades, facilities replacements, new customer installations and other kinds of projects for electric utilities in the Oregon area.  Estimators are also tasked with engineering calculations, state tariff application, contract preparation, easement writing, and general document preparation in the course of these projects.    The position requires knowledge of power system design, distribution and transmission construction, and design and engineering programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Specific work tasks may include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare electrical power designs in accordance with the NESC and GO 95 codes, as well as our customers’ internal standards.
  • Apply design knowledge in the preparation of design products for the installation, replacement and upgrading of power distribution equipment.
  • Analyze engineering problems, using customer-provided and stand-alone tools, and offer effective and efficient resolutions in a timely manner while working on several projects at once.
  • Work well with all internal team members, utility customers and our own clients.
  • Develop electrical construction plans, for a variety of job types, including New Customer Services, Subdivision Developments, Overhead Reconductors, Pole Replacements, Solar and Net Metering Upgrades, UG facilities replacements, etc.
  • Review and check drawings to ensure that designs meet the technical needs of the client and adhere to company and code-based standards for reliability and safety
  • Interface with customers and visit job sites as needed to gather information/data.
  • Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software including AutoCAD, GIS-based drafting tools, and more
Travel: Travels to client sites, project locations and to other offices as needed.

Required Experience And Education
  • 2+ years experience working in planning, estimating or engineering for electric utilities
  • 2+ years experience with electric distribution and/or transmission design
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Access) competence required.
  • Ability to use engineering software, such as Spida Calc, Ocalc, Cyme, programs for cable pulling calculations, guying calcs, power quality, etc
  • AutoCAD proficiency requirements depend on experience level.
