As a Substation Physical Design Engineer, you will work on diverse client projects, including those for investor-owned and municipal utilities, independent power producers, renewable energy companies, and large commercial and industrial customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Create physical design drawings, such as General Arrangement, Elevations and Equipment Connection Details, Grounding Plan and Details, Conduit Plan and Details, Control Building Layout and Details, Foundation Plan and Details, and develop material lists.
Conduct studies and calculations to properly design substations, including grounding calculations, lightning protection calculations, battery bank sizing calculations, conduit fill calculations, and substation sizing calculations, as well as perform AC & DC substation studies.
Ensure compliance with quality control and safe work practices while maintaining adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget.
Work with client standards to implement the design.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field with 8 or more years of related substation physical design experience.
Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies.
Proficiency in substation design (medium, high, and extra-high voltage) and familiarity with IEEE/ANSI standards.
Strong analytical skills and proven problem-solving abilities in both team and independent environments.
Technical competency, including proficiency with WinIGS, CDEGS, MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Revit.
Proficiency with SEL or GE relays.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with internal teams.
Collaborative thinker who can work effectively in a team environment.
Self-starter who works independently with minimal direction.
Preferred Qualifications:
EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) License.
