Asplundh Engineering Services, LLC (AES) is presently in search of an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer/Manager to take on a crucial role in our Southern California region. This full-time, remote position may entail some short-term travel. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing oversight of all engineering activities within the region as well as supporting other AES regions throughout the US. This will involve tasks such as bid preparation, ensuring the quality assurance and quality control of work products, as well as monitoring project timelines and budgets. It is essential to be adept at managing multiple projects and teams of engineers simultaneously while effectively engaging with both the engineering staff and AES customers. Furthermore, expanding the current business through building new relationships and sustaining existing customer connections is a key aspect of this role. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of all engineering activities within assigned region.
  • Preparation of bids, ensuring the quality assurance and quality control of work products.
  • Ensuring project timelines and budgets are met.
  • Management of several projects and teams of engineers concurrently.
  • Interface with engineering staff and AES customers.
  • Expansion of existing business through developing new business relationships and maintaining existing customers.
  • Region expansion including:
    • Oversight of recruitment of new employees at all experience levels; Supervision of the development and growth of existing engineers.
    • Providing oversight of personnel to achieve specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) established with the Director.
    • Holding direct reports accountable for billability and optimizing resources based on project needs.
    • Support team growth through mentoring, support, and goal setting.
    • Develop specific personnel goals reviewed quarterly.
    • Track and maintain records of personnel performance.
    • Identifying training opportunities for personnel based on goals and growth objectives.
  • Maintain personal billability through project oversight.
  • Collaborate with the Director to achieve profitability goals, identify resource needs, and drive business development opportunities.
  • Ensuring quality assurance and quality control controls for all projects are in place and utilized.
 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree (Power Systems preferred) or equivalent technical experience.
  • A Professional Engineering License in California is required.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the electrical power industry (hands-on/field experience a plus).
  • At least 3 years of managerial experience with several direct reports.
  • Experience in an engineering environment designing and specifying all aspects of low, medium, and high voltage construction, inspection, and testing of facilities and equipment in utility, power generation, and commercial industrial markets.
  • Knowledge of protective relaying, controls, SCADA and protection applications, protective device coordination, setting and programming of electromechanical and microprocessor relays including SEL, Basler, ABB, GE, Cooper.
  • Design experience of transmission, distribution, and Generator Interconnect Substations.
  • Design experience of overhead/underground medium voltage distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of ASPEN, SKM, EasyPower, ETAP, or other utility-based software programs.
  • Experience with equipment ranging from 0.5kV to 500kV.
  • Ability to perform job tasks in the office as well as the field.
  • Ability to interact with clients and develop technical reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proficiency with computers using Microsoft programs, AutoCAD, project management software, etc.
